Don't have a SMART Board in your school?  If you have a LCD projector and a Whiteboard you can still mimic most SMART Board effects.  Yes, I understand you can't manipulate the board and have students come up and move things around, but you can use the dry erase markers on the whiteboard as you would the SMART Board markers.  By showing word documents, powerpoints or websites through the LCD projector you use the colored markers to underline, circle, or pretty much mark up your documents without having to really "mess" them up and revert them back to their normal state for the next class. 

 

If you have two or three classes of the same subject, this could save you time from having to write out the same notes multiple times.  Write them once on your computer and then use the whiteboard to explain or enhance what you are teaching the students.  This can be great for math teachers that teach any kind of graphing.  Build a graph template that you would want to use with no data, and use the color markers to show the graph lines.  The visual effects will stick with the students.
